Applications are invited to apply for the Tobe Maki Scholarship Program 2026 in Japan. All National & International students are welcome to apply for these scholarships in Japan. Those students who want to pursue their undergraduate, master’s, and PhD degrees abroad on a funded scholarship are welcome to apply.

The Japanese government offers a lot of scholarships as well as fellowships each year. Tobe Maki Scholarship is one of them. One of Japan’s most generous academic sponsors is now offering financial assistance to international students enrolling in Japanese institutions and graduate programs. Applications for the Scholarship Program, which aims to support gifted, hardworking, and financially challenged students studying in Japan, are now officially open.

A need-aware, merit-based initiative, the Tobe Maki Scholarship aids graduate and undergraduate students engaged in research in particular academic disciplines. The scholarship places a great emphasis on character, academic achievement, and the possibility of intellectual development. Only five foreign scholarships are given out each year out of a total of 60 prizes; thus, self-financed international students with “student” visa status are encouraged to apply for this extremely competitive opportunity in Japan.

Financial Benefits:

Tobe Maki Scholarship Program 2026 in Japan for international students covers the following benefits:

The monthly salary for graduate students is ¥70,000, or ¥840,000 annually.
The monthly salary for undergraduates is ¥60,000, or ¥720,000 annually.
The fellowship lasts for two years, although outstanding PhD candidates may be eligible for an extension of up to four years or more.
Scholarships are awarded directly to recipients; the first payment is issued in July 2026, covering the period from April to July.

Note: The Tobe Maki Scholarship sum may be cut in half if recipients earn high-value scholarships elsewhere that total more than ¥2 million annually. Tuition exemptions and JASSO scholarships, however, won’t affect the entire benefit.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered for the Tobe Maki Scholarship Program 2026 in Japan, you must fulfill these eligibility criteria:

Applicants must be enrolled during the duration of the award at a Japanese university or graduate program.
Candidates must be looking to further your education in one of the following areas:
Chemistry, food science, design and art, sports science or physical education, or business administration (including marketing and public management)
Applicants must be enrolled in a Master’s or Doctoral program, or in their third year or higher (undergraduates).
Participants must be under 30 years old on April 1, 2026 (personal circumstances may allow for an exception).
Applicants must exhibit excellent academic standing, a desire to learn, and polite behavior.
Applicants must have a track record of having trouble paying their tuition.
Funding requests can be made for a single year (for example, a final year), and shorter time frames of one to two years are also taken into consideration in situations such as fall enrollment.
